HCPS has mechanical separator technology available for classification of materials from 20 to 180 mesh. The mechanical separator works via a mechanical screening or sifting technique. This technology uses a wire mesh screen with different opening sizes to separate a given product into two or more fractions.
The gyratory type screener that is pictured is available with a wide selection of options. It can come with multiple decks with different screen sizes in each deck, starting from the top with coarse screens to the bottom with the finest screen. This configuration will allow the incoming feed material to be separated in to multiple fractions from coarse to fine.
These units are particularly suitable to classify free flowing powders with a low angle of repose. A range of screening motions and amplitudes are available to effectively move the material over the screens. These devices can usually operate with a 90 to 95% efficiency which makes them very attractive options in applications that require separation of the particle size distribution.
There are a couple of additional terms worth mentioning when discussing classification in general. The first term is "Scalping". Scalping means the removal of a small percentage of coarse material that could be in the feed material. The second term is "de-dusting". De-dusting is just the opposite and means that a small percentage of fine material is the undesired fraction that needs to be removed from the feed material.
